Installing WinHelp
(tip)

Page created: 09/30/2015

When one installs WinHelp in Windows Vista*, Windows Server 2008*, Windows 7*, Windows 8* or Windows 8.1* using one of Microsoft's dedicated packages, one does not get all the components which were provided with previous Windows versions.

One lacking functionality, of rather low importance, is "Help on Help" (files winhelp.hlp and winhlp32.hlp).

A much more frustrating lack is that of the windows.hlp file which notably includes default messages for context-sensitive help. I compiled a minimal version of this file which can be downloaded and shoud be copied in the C:\Windows\Help folder.
